1.hotel california与精神病：
歌词给我们讲述了一个怪诞的旅程，画面充满迷幻色彩，所有的人物行为都十分诡异，语言晦涩。
歌词中可以还看到这样一些线索：
“How they dance in the court yard
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to Remember, some dance to forget“
精神病的发作，幻想自己为舞者，或在舞蹈中回忆过去美好的忘却过去痛苦的。
“We are all just prisoners here of our own device“
他们混乱的思维把他们囚禁在心灵的牢笼中。
“I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
to the place I was before“
“You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave“
精神病院不是想出去就能出去的，但所有人都向往自由。(那些有精神病院情节的电影中都能看出，比如“12 monkeys“)然而在精神病院的严密看护下，一切自以为正常的行为都会被否定。
这个说法认为hotel california是一个精神病院而已。
2.hotel california与性：
歌曲创作时期，正是美国年轻人宣扬一种本性的回归和性的解放的时候，在特定的社会历史环境中，歌词也就不难理解。
On a dark desert highway，
开头写出了(男主角)内心的迷惘与饥渴。
Warm smell of colitas，
远处飘来香气。
There she stood in the doorway，
香气的来源，所以说，smell of colitas也可以解释为smell of sex，而这里的she
(女主角)其实也就是个妓女。
I heard the mission bell，
性的诱惑已经无法抵御。
And I was thinking to myself, “This could be Heaven or this could be Hell.“
这件事可能是明智的也可能是愚蠢的。(其实自己心里十分清楚)
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted,
对妓女的正面描写，其实是妖艳的荡妇。
How they dance in the courtyard，sweet summer sweat
性爱场面的描写!
还有很多句都有这方面含义的引申：
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California.
She’s got a lot of pretty, pretty boys. That she calls friends.
由于这里18岁以下青少年比较多，我也不多讲了，自己在歌词中意会了。
从这里出发，hotel california就是一个妓院。
3.hotel california与毒品。
这首歌很多地方还可以理解为毒品。
colitas指的是大麻
(marijuana(大麻)被昵称为mary jane(两个女名)，而和mary jane跳舞，意思就是吸毒。 )
“My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim“
可能根本闻不到什么大麻的香味，只不过是毒瘾快发作而已。
“She lit up a candle and showed me the way“
用蜡烛火焰把块状海洛因分解开。注意，show me the way中的way的意思不是路，是吸海洛因的方法。
“This could be heaven or this could be hell“
吸食后如入天堂，毒瘾发作如入地狱。
“And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Welcome to the Hotel California“
其中voices are calling是内心深处对毒品的渴求和呼喊。
“the mirrors on the ceiling and pink champagne on ice“
“They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can’t kill the beast“
吸毒后的幻像。
“So I called up the Captain“
Captain就是一个毒贩子。
最后意识到在毒品中陷的太深，但已经是欲罢不能了。
就这个解释来说，hotel california是一个吸食毒品的窝点。
另一种看法，虽然也认为跟毒品有关，但认为hotel california是一个监狱，专门关押吸毒者。
最充分的理由就是hotel california确实存在，被称为C.R.C - California
Rehabilitation Center, Norca CA
其中Shimmering lights是警察的车灯
女主角是所里的一个看守，且和一些病人有性关系。
mirrors on the cielings是为了防止越狱用的。
其他一些跟毒品相关的解释同上。
从我的理解上来看更偏向于吸毒的窝点。
4.hotel california与迷惘的一代：
这种说法综合了第二种和第三种，是这两种的延伸和补充，虽不好单独列为一点，但却被更多的人所接受。
一个感觉生活没有意义，想逃离现实的青年，夜里在西部的一条公路上开着敞篷车，当他在hotel california里check in后，他就深陷在性和毒品中，即使后悔也无法离开。
不但没有找到生活的意义与生命的价值，反而更糟，把自己领向了绝路。
这种解释说Eagles创作的这首歌曲，反映了当时人们的生活及精神状态，并希望大家不要发生类似的巨大代价的错误。
5.hotel california与宗教。
the Church of Satan(拜撒旦教)，April 30，1966由Anton Szandor LaVey创立，总部地点就在旧金山加州大街的一间旅馆内。而由这个旅馆发出的最后一封信件就是在1969年，当时eagles的经纪人正和拜撒旦教中的一个女祭祀同居。
dancing in the court yard指的是教内祭祀的仪式。其他的一些都可以在歌中得到理解。
据说当你将这首歌反过来播放，你能听到这个：“Yes Satan he made his own
religion“。(听说的，我没有试过)
其实，在国外，这种解释最为普遍。
有人说，不如问问Eagles自己，他们写这首歌究竟
是什么意思。其实早就有人问过了，听听Fery是怎么回答的吧。
“...We were into Steely Dan at the time and liked how their lyrics really
didn’t mean anything, so we decided to do something like that too. So we
took a few mysterious elements, put it all together and let the listener’s
draw their own conclusions. ...“
